Daily Pump Trap: 2/5/13 edition

Good morning! Between January 31 and February 4, there were 30 new positions posted on the C&EN Jobs website. Of these, 12 (40%) are academically connected and 8 (27%) are from Kelly Scientific Resources.

Cincinnati, OH: Procter and Gamble is opening up applications for its internship for Ph.D. positions; interested graduate students should apply. Also, they have 4 openings for analytically-oriented B.S./M.S. chemists.

Woburn, MA: Organix is hiring its traditional set of postdoctoral fellows in organic chemistry; I've always wondered what they're up to there...

Las Vegas, NV: The Las Vegas Valley Water District is hiring a laboratory manager. M.S. in chemistry, 5 years lab management experience desired. 121k salary (wow!)

St. Louis, MO: The FDA is hiring a postdoc to perform rapid pharmaceutical analysis.

Tullahoma, TN: The mysterious folks who want a chemical sensing/molecular imprinting Ph.D. are back; who are they, and what are they looking for?

  1. Organix' postdocs mostly work on their NIDA-sponsored research. That gives them the needed industrial experience and a few publications. Then most of them go to other companies thus expanding Organix' client base.

  2. Organix is just another custom synthesis sweat shop taking advantage of the "industrial post doc" slave labor pool.
